District
Savannah is located within the boundaries of the Denton County Fresh Water Supply District No. 10 (“District”). The Commissioner’s Court of Denton County authorized the creation of the District because Savannah was NOT located in a city. The District is a political subdivision of the State of Texas, and functions similar to a city. The governing body is composed of five directors, elected by the voters in the District. The undeveloped future phases of Savannah are also located within the District. The District also includes properties in addition to Savannah. The District constructs and maintains water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, roads, trash removal, etc. within the boundaries of the District. In order to pay for construction and maintenance costs, the State of Texas has authorized the District to levy an ad valorem tax (property tax), similar to a City. The current tax rate for the District is $1.00 per $100 of assessed value. The District has the authority to issue a maximum of $221.6 million in bonds to pay for District roads, water lines, sewer lines, and storm drains. There is no city tax.
